"It must have been such a powerful desire, an inner longing, an unextinguished dream that sparked in our minds during our student years alongside our dear professor Ionel Cojocariu, colleagues from different generations, and good friends, so much so that—with the blessing of Maria Militaru Arnous's family—this true marathon of ideas took shape, launched and began. A marathon of experiments, moments of introspection and absolute joy to the point of exhaustion, music, culinary treats, smoky mornings and smiles in our hearts.
Going through the labor of a piece of work starting from the initial idea, in the cheerful bustle of the workshop—with joy, turmoil, hope, courage, sincerity and with an open heart exposed to chance—all the way to its completion through firing, are stages spent alongside a team tightly united around the incandescent hearth. These stages create moments that imprint themselves on our memory and soothe our longings year after year. We come with the embers of our daily lives and scatter them into the hearth of the RAKU Marathon with the same unextinguished enthusiasm we have felt since the very first RAKU experiment each of us experienced.
It is an honor and a privilege to be part of this heartfelt cultural event of the MADART Association, which is probably the longest-running project of its kind, performing for over 10 years in our country, with exceptional sculptural ceramic works, while also nurturing a small breeding ground for future artists."
